This pair of toddler’s tabi shoes are dead stock. The still have their labels. The brand is ‘kiku bijin’, or chrysanthemum beauty. They also have a company name of ‘kikutsuru’ down below, which means chrysanthemum stork. I estimate that they are from the early to middle twentieth century.
Even the labels are beautiful. There is a small stamp affixed which says that they are pure cotton.
The shoes are sewn together with cotton thread, being dead stock. They look to be in perfect wearing condition, though.
They are made from a pure cotton piled fabric, like a corduroy without rows, just straight pile. Could one call it cotton velvet? The bottoms have ridges, like normal corduroy, for some traction, no doubt. The insides are also a super soft cotton flannel. They must feel heavenly when worn.
These would be great for display, or a collection of children’s clothing, or for wearing, even. Great photograph costume!!!
