This is a cotton sarashi tenugui, like a light cotton scarf. The color scheme, the pattern AND the fabric are light and airy. I bet this would help you cool down in summer, any way you use it.

Super-psychedelic sacred geometry freak flag for you to wear!! or display!! or best idea yet, GIVE to somebody you LOVE as a gift!!! Everyone would love it!! Original and traditional, all at once. This young sprout green color is organic, calming.

A tenugui is versatile and there are so many things you can do with it, including wrap your head or neck, wrap and carry goods, display it like a tapestry on a wall or in a window. or on a car dash. You could even consider it fabric for your latest creation! Cut it up mandala by mandala and use it for applique or whatnot. Bright and happy color scheme will resonate thru no matter how you use it. It is a smile flag!!

The fabric is a nice light 100% cotton sarashi, like a strong gauze. Sarashi is a ubiquitous japanese textile, used in every way. It is originally woven narrow like this , so there are selvedges on both sides. The ends are unfinished.

This is a double-size 100% cotton sarashi tenugui. By ‘double-size’, I mean it is enough for two tenugui. I will cut it in half if I need to, and sell the two tenugui separately. I have listed this as two pieces, but it is all one long piece to begin with. If you purchase both pieces, it will not be cut.

Folded and bound and dyed by me using procion fiber reactive dyes. This type of shibori is called itajime, although i do it in a different way than it is done in the traditional Japanese version. Itajime means clamped between boards , and I do not use clamps or boards, but rubber bands. Sometimes this is called Sekka Itajime, or snow flower itajime, the snow crystal always being a six-pointed crystal. This pattern is also one version of a traditional pattern called asanoha-gara, or hemp leaf pattern. This pattern was often used in children's clothing, in order to express a wish that the wearer would grow fast and straight, like hemp. I love the design connections and process connections i see between this Japanese shibori process and Venetian glass millefiore processes used in bead production, etc

altogether, it is 176 cms (69.3 inches) x 34 cms (13.4 inches)

I am selling it in halves. Buy both if you want the entire piece, and it will not be cut. Each half is an inch under a yard long.

Completely washable in hot water and detergent. Ironable too.

It's a scarf, or a collar, or a wall hanging, or an altar cloth, or a crystal mandala cloth, or fabric for your project, or the best gift ever. It's all that, and MORE!!! Get it and unleash all of its possibilities!!
